The Rwanda-Denmark youth project is set to sensitize citizens in Huye district on the essentials of family-planning, coordinator of the project has said. Hubert Zirimwabagabo said that the pilot plan to teach on family-planning issues would be effective beginning 2008, though much has already been done. “About 6500 young women have already been taught in family-planning sessions, and we hope to sensitize men also from areas of Matyazo and Kaburemera cells,” Zirimwabagabo said. The Rwanda-Denmark project is a cooperation between the two countries through the Medical Student Association of Rwanda and the International Medical Cooperation Committee. Both organisations are working with their respective universities in Butare and at the University of Copenhagen. The cooperation began in 2004, as is composed of 60 volunteer medical staff (75 per cent Rwandese and a quarter Danish.) The mission is to improve the quality of life and the socioeconomic development of the rural population of Southern Province and to raise the humanitarian awareness and understanding between Rwanda university students.
