RSSB in drive to sensitise citizens on social security

Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB), through Rwanda Security Partners Ltd (SSP), has launched a campaign to sensitise Rwandans to seek social security, especially pension, after it emerged that only 10 per cent of Rwandans are adherents. According to officials, almost all Rwandans in the informal sector do not have the cover, leaving them vulnerable, especially during old age. The sensitisation campaign will be carried out by 200 agents under SSP and will initially target 15 districts, according to Joseph Kayumba, the director-general of SSP, a private company. They will mainly conduct mass mobilisation explaining the importance of having social security, educating people about social security laws and procedures on how employees not in public service can subscribe, among others. “Rwandans should be secured against any future eventualities, it can be old age, it can be an accident at work that may leave you incapacitated or anything,” Kayumba said on Thursday during training of the mobilisers ahead of the campaign.
