Local basketball fans have been forced to hold back their excitement for the play offs final after recent adjustments in the national league schedule. According to the local basketball federation (Ferwaba), the play offs finals have been put on hold for two weeks to pave way for the Zone 5 Africa Club Championships. “We have temporarily called off the play offs because APR and Marine are traveling to Ethiopia for the Zone 5 club championships,” a Ferwaba official said. Marine progressed to the final after hard-fought victories over Cercle Sportif (CSK) while APR garnered defaults points over Rusizi. The Zone 5 club championships are scheduled for October 27-November 1 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where Rwanda will field three teams. The championship’s defending champions APR and domestic league champions Marine will compete in the men’s category while APR’s ladies counterparts will showcase Rwanda’s basketball potential in the ladies’ category. Other clubs in the race for the title include; Kenya’s quartet of KPA, KCB Lions, Co-operative Bank and United States International University (USIU) Flames, Uganda’s KCC, Marines, Falcons and A1 Challenge amongst others.
