Swimmer Isiaka ‘Bebeto’ Iradukunda won a gold medal on the opening day of the 8th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championship which is underway at Gahanga Swimming Pool, Kigali. Iradukunda is among 60 swimmers representing Rwanda at the regional swimming competition, which attracted over 250 participants from 10 countries. The 17-year-old has already bagged two of seven medals that Rwanda has so far won on the opening day of the competition. He struck gold in boys’ 'Breaststroke' category on top of bronze medal in boys’ 'Butterfly' 100 meters. READ ALSO: Rwanda ready for Zone 3 Swimming Championship Meanwhile, Claudette Ishimwe also won two silver medals in the the U-17 category of the 200m Backstroke and 200m Breaststroke while and Yvette Iradukunda took home a bronze medal in the U-17 category of the 200m Backstroke. READ ALSO: Rwanda to host Zone 3 Swimming Championship Another medallist was 17-year-old Oscar Peyrer who struck 'Bronze' in the boys’ 50m Backstroke category in. Playing as a team known as 'Relay', Rwanda took 3rd place and was awarded a 'Bronze' medal in the category of boys aged 16 years and above. In general, Rwanda collected 7 medals on the first day of the Zone 3 Swimming championship including one Gold, 3 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals. Tanzania leads in medals, followed by South Africa, Uganda and Kenya.
