Editor, RE: “Why Kibeho VTC model is the answer to youth unemployment” (The New Times, December 9). It was encouraging to read that the Kibeho Vocational Training Centre model could be the answer to the unemployment challenge facing the country. Kibeho offers more than just religious tourism. Religious tourism by itself could be explored far better at Kibeho, if the necessary infrastructure is put in place. On my recent visit to Kigali, I had the pleasure of meeting a group of pilgrims at the Kigali International Airport who were all proceeding to Kibeho with a sense of deep faith. It was so inspiring to see even elderly people coming from overseas and making that long journey from Kigali to this place of pilgrimage. That is what “deep faith” is all about. I am sure, before long, the long road to Kibeho will be made more pleasing and comfortable for one and all. Now, coming to the other side of Kibeho, how encouraging to read that the Kibeho Vocational Training Centre is the most popular destination for those seeking vocational education in the area. Vocational education is the buzz word today and whether it is in Rwanda, India or even in developed countries like Canada and Australia, such skills are of great importance. Vincent Habimana, the deputy head teacher at Kibeho VTC should be commended for the great work he’s doing for the youth in Rwanda. Clarence Fernandes
