Uganda will host the 2016 CECAFA U17 and Women’s tournaments in August and December respectively, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) president Moses Magogo has confirmed. Magogo said that the two tournaments will help in boosting the capacity of the country’s junior and women’s leagues. With plans to have the Women National football team in continental and World Cup competitions in the near future, Magogo believes the CECAFA tournament comes at the best time. “We intend to host the CECAFA Under-17 (Boys) and Women in August and December 2016 respectively such that the best of the FUFA Juniors League and the FUFA Women Elite League are put to international test.” He said. CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye confirmed the development. The U17 tournament was earlier scheduled for this year but lack of sponsorship forced the CECAFA leadership to move it ahead. Burundi hosted the U17 tournament in 2007 and won the event after beating Uganda 2-0 in final while in 2009 it was hosted by Sudan and Uganda beat Eritrea in final 2-0.
