Christians have been advised to avoid selfishness and embrace altruism to ensure that the entire community lives in harmony and prosperity. The call was made on Friday by Monsignor Philip Rukamba, the Bishop of the Butare Cathedral during Christmas mass in Huye District, December 25, 2015. “An ego-centric person, the one who works for their own interests only, cannot know the interests of their friend, cannot understand the goodness of their friend, for their ‘beauty’ is only in their own interests,” Rukamba said. “Selfishness is tending to amass all to oneself because one is not satisfied, rather thinks that everything should go to their hands,” he said. “Christmas reminds us of living in peace, unity. It reminds us that God is in our life and loves us. “Give peace and be the friend of peace. Give peace in this time you are living, in all the problems you face, in all the problems surrounding you, be a peaceful person. Live well with your neighbours, be happy with what constructs, rather than the wrong that happens to your friend.” editorial@newtimes.co.rw
