Editor, RE: “A new century for the Middle East” (The New Times, December 23). Thanks a lot to Prof. Jeffrey Sachs. This is a very informative piece indeed. At least it reveals the source and motives behind the troubles in our world. Although the focus was on the situation in the Middle East, it also explains the trend of events in other parts of the world, including Africa. The U.S. and Europe wouldn’t wish to see any of the natural resources endowed nations emancipated. So, in my view, of all the things the author suggested that could be done, the only one that is possible is for these vulnerable sections of society to strategically focus on quality education. The rest are not possible because it would be to beg the West to voluntarily relinquish their quest for hegemony for economic obsessions. Donart
