They say that one is more blessed when they give more than they receive. Many people all over the world can’t wait to exchange gifts with their families this Christmas. The Bible says that when Jesus was born, three wise men brought him gold, frankincense, and myrrh as gifts. But this is 2015, and if Jesus was born in this era, it would not be in a barn, it would most definitely be in a hospital, he would not be put in a manger; he would probably have his own bed. Nasra Bishumba and Dennis Agaba asked different people what gifts they would give Jesus if he was born today. Patricia Uwase - University student Patricia Uwase If Jesus was born in Rwanda today, I feel the greatest gift I can offer my Saviour is to give him shelter, and care for him as he grows. I would take Jesus to my home and take care of him; give him everything a baby of this generation can ever need and want. Ruth Kang’ong’oi - Businesswoman Ruth Kang’ong’oi How did that man talk to all those people without a microphone? He must have had a damaged voice box by the time he died. Anyway, I would buy him the best microphone on the market to help him when he is finally ready to address the thousands of people when he is eventually an adult. Gilbert Mwebaze - DJ Gilbert Mwebaze There are many options but I think that, as a DJ, I would organise a party for him near Lake Kivu and obviously wait to see if he would get excited, stand up and walk on water. After all, he is Jesus; I expect miracles. Christine Mutesi - Marketing officer Christine Mutesi I believe warm and comfortable baby clothes would be a better gift for Jesus. According to the Bible, Jesus never had a comfortable birthday, so I think a good gift would be fancy outfits and other essential baby items. Cassandra Makiya - student Cassandra Makiya I think for someone born in a manger, a nice comfortable baby cot fully stocked with lots of pillows and teddy bears would be cool. Then a selfie stick because no one knows what Jesus looks like but if photos are taken from the time he is a baby, by the time he is an adult, we would at least be able to put a face to a name. Allan Atulinda - photographer Allan Atulinda This is 2015 and there are things that anyone who considers themselves modern must have. I would buy for him a smartphone, Hoover board, selfie-stick, an internet router and a mini toy car like the one rapper 50 Cent bought his 2-year-old son. I would also give the mother some money to be able to buy some stuff since these days everything seems to be about money. Florantine Nyiraneza - vendor Florantine Nyiraneza Since I’m a vendor, if Jesus was born in Rwanda, I would gather the most fresh and delicious greens, fruits and other great food products for him. With gratitude of getting an opportunity to give my saviour a gift, fruits and vegetables are the ideal gift for both his and his mothers’ health. Praise Mutesi - sales representative Praise Mutesi I believe it would be an honour to settle the hospital bill and relieve the family of that financial burden. I believe taking care of the bills would be one way to give back part of the resources that He blessed me with. David Nyasha - creative arts director David Nyasha Last week I saw a lamp that is shaped like an airplane so I think I would buy him that for his room because good lighting determines the mood. What I am not sure about is whether I can afford that fee but, if I failed, I would get something cheaper; like a diaper box made in local agaseke fibre. Elias Muneza - artiste Elias Muneza To express my gratitude and appreciate the opportunity of him being born in Rwanda, I would record a beautiful song for him as a gift. I can’t see a better gift than a good song about the birth of Jesus Christ. Denise Rwakaija - training manager, MTN Rwanda Denise Rwakaija This is Jesus Christ we are talking about but at the end of the day, he would be a boy and every male child in this era dreams of a play station and that’s exactly what I would get for him. I would add a bicycle because I am yet to see a boy who is not crazy about one. Jacky Kayitesi - University student Jacky Kayitesi A nice looking and comfortable baby bed would be my gift to Jesus in case he was born in Rwanda. I believe there is no better gift for a baby than an elegant and comfortable bed. This is because I would want my Saviour to have sound sleep and grow in good health. Claude Buhiga - receptionist Claude Buhiga I would buy for him everything amusing, like board games and teddy bears, among others. In other words I would be in charge of the fun, making sure that he enjoys his childhood years. I would take him to amusement parks, and other fun places. After all, what pleases a child more than having fun and feeling loved? Aisha Birungi - sales executive Aisha Birungi This is a hard question to answer. What do you actually give a child who has everything? Isn’t that like trying to find a gift for Bill Gates’ son? To avoid embarrassment, I would just go with flowers because they are a safe but sweet gift.
