Editor, RE: “Why should Burundi continue providing peacekeeping troops?” (The New Times, December 21). Whereas I agree with the author on most of the points, I do not believe that the Burundian contingent serving in the peacekeeping mission in Somalia should be sent home. Why? They would be going back not as happy people as they will have been denied a chance to have a decent meal and some extra cash too. Sending them back to starvation at the time when the Government cannot feed them the same way they are currently being fed, means that you would be providing President Pierre Nkurunziza with potential recruits to continue assassinating Burundians. In fact, some of them may end up being killed for various reasons. Some would be suspected of being friends, sympathizers of coup plotters or associated with them in one way or another. Sendi
