New Chinese ambassador pledges to uphold relations

The new Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Pan Hejun, has pledged to do his best to take the relations between the two countries to another level. Speaking in his first media conference at the Chinese embassy in Kigali, yesterday, Pan said the relationship between the two countries is good but he has come to make it even better. “During my tenure in office, I will do my best to promote relations between Rwanda and China. There are already good relations between us. There is political trust. We shall continue to uphold it,” he said. Pan has replaced Shen YongXiang. He said with support from Rwandans, relations in business, culture and political bonds shall be promoted for the mutual benefit of the two countries. “Rwanda has got a lot. It is efficient. With the help of Rwandans, during the coming years we shall see the fruit of our relationship in business, culture and security,” Pan said. He cited examples of different Chinese funded projects in the country like the upgrading of a hospital in Masaka and a 54-kilometre road in Kigali among other benefits that Rwandans will enjoy. Pan Hejun is yet to present his credentials to the President but Cabinet in November endorsed his accreditation. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
