Nyanza opens door to investors

Over 200 local, regional and international investors who attended ‘Nyanza Investors’ Forum 2015’ were shown various opportunities available in the district so that they can start investing in various economic activities. During the study tour on Friday, various government authorities showed investors Nyanza’s potential projects such as agriculture, mining, sports and culture as well as tourism. The tour saw investors visit different places, including Rukari Palace, Nyanza Milk Industries and Nyanza Dum and Hillside Irrigation Project to see where they can invest their money. The irrigation project that facilitates farmers from Rwabicuma, Nyagisozi, Busasamana and Cyabakamyi Sectors to do their agriculture activities through irrigation during dry seasons, took Rfw 6 billion to build and can supply 400 hectares and production has risen from 1 to 4000 tons per year since it was constructed in 2010. Tony Nsanganira, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Animal Resources, who presided over the forum, told investors that it was now the right time to invest, in partnership with the community. “There is plenty of opportunities and enough space for investors to start their business in Nyanza and there is hope that they can earn big profits from their investments once there is collaboration with the residents, who are the main beneficiaries,” he said. Abdallah Murenzi, Nyanza Mayor, said that investors have many opportunities to invest, such as tourism, where he called on investors to build hotels that can host different events like ‘Inyanza Twataramye Cultural Festival’ which will be celebrated annually. “We need the event to take place every year and the more it is celebrated, the more it will attract many tourists, who will need accommodation,” he said, adding that the door was open to all investors and the district was ready to collaborate with them. “It is good for district officials to sit with us- investors, and make us open up our eyes to see where opportunities lie. And I can now see where I can spend my cash and this is a real way forward to think about what can bring us profit and start business in Nyanza,” said Daniel Mkoko, a Kenyan investor. ‘Nyanza Investors’ Forum 2015’ was part of ‘I Nyanza Twataramye Cultural Festival’ which is taking place from December 4-5 for the second time since 2014.
