Ndayisenga returns to training after angina attack

The 2014 Tour du Rwanda winner, Valens Ndayisenga has resumed training after suffering chest pain that forced him to pull out of this year’s Tour du Rwanda in stage five, from Musanze to Nyanza last Thursday. Valens Ndayisenga Ndayisenga suffered angina attack, chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. However, the 20-year-old has now returned to training at the Africa Rising Cycling Center in Musanze. Ndayisenga appeared to struggle in Ngororero as he tried to push to stay with the leading peloton but because he did not drink water due to angina, he was not able to stay in the race, which was won by his Team Rwanda Karisimbi teammate, Jean-Bosco Nsengimana. “I am feeling well after receiving treatment, and I have started training. I am now looking forward to return to my best shape. It was hard for me to pull out of the race but this is life and sometimes you cannot force yourself to compete,” he told Times Sport on Wednesday. The Rwamagana-born Team Rwanda rider added, “I want to train hard and return to my top level. It was frustrating but this is life, I have to accept what happened and look forward.” By the time Ndayisenga pulled out, he was still on course to retain his title as he was in seventh position with a time of 12h58’50’’ after 512 kilometers — 1 minute and 30 seconds behind leader Nsengimana. Nsengimana, who led the 928.6 kilometer race from start to finish, won this year’s Tour du Rwanda after clocking 23h54’50.
