Dr. Mutasim elected new CECAFA president

Sudanese Football Association president Dr. Jaffar Mutasim has been elected the new president of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), taking over from Tanzanian Leodegar Tenga, who stepped down after two terms of four years. The elections were held on Friday at the InterContinental Hotel in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. Dr. Mutasim received six votes out of ten, beating Uganda’s FA president Lawrence Mulindwa, who had three votes and Rwanda’s Vincent Nzamwita who got a single vote while Ethiopias Junedin Basha withdrew from the race at the last minute. Speaking to the media in his acceptance speech, the new president said he will embark on a road map that will change the entire CECAFA region by embracing football development and working to bring sponsorship for all the competitions from U-17 to the Senior Challenge Cup. “I have been successful in Sudan and I want the same concept to be the pointer at CECAFA by ensuring we have capacity for both technical and tactical operations to help bring back sanity, “said Dr. Mutasim. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
