Prices of fresh peas, passion fruits shoot up in Kayonza

Pricesof foodstuff and other commodities have gone up in Kayonza District, a mini-survey by Business Times indicates. Prices of passion fruits, mangoes, and fresh peas increased by Rwf200 in Kayonza Market compared to the past week. Passion fruits now cost Rwf1,500 a kilo in Kayonza and other markets, up from Rwf1,300 a week ago. The price of mangoes is at Rwf1,200, from Rwf1,000 previously, while fresh peas go for Rwf1,500 per kilogramme in Kayonza Market, up from Rwf1,300 last week. A kilogramme of oranges is up Rwf100 at Rwf1,300, up from Rwf1,200, while that of fresh beans is at Rwf500 compared to Rwf450 last week. Meanwhile, prices for other commodities and foodstuffs were unchanged, with a bag of charcoal Rwf8,000, while a basin (measure) of tomatoes goes for Rwf8,000 and onions cost Rwf1,000 per kilogramme. A kilogramme of maize flour costs Rwf500 per kilo, that of cassava flour is at Rwf400, while a kilo of rice ranges from Rwf750 to Rwf850 in most shops in Kayonza town. A five-litre jerrycan of vegetable cooking oil is at Rwf6,200 and milk costs between Rwf250 and Rwf500 per litre in different trading centres in Kayonza town. A bar of soap is at between Rwf500 and Rwf600, while bread (weighing 1kg) ranges from Rwf800 to Rwf2,000, depending on the brand, size and type or whether one does their shopping in an ordinary shop or supermarket. Sweet potatoes and fresh cassava tubers cost Rwf250 per kilogramme each, while pineapples range from Rwf500 to Rwf650, depending on size.
