Editor, RE: “Revenue Protection Unit recovers Rwf265 million in evaded taxes” (The New Times, October 22). A large sum of money in taxes is usually lost when taxes are evaded. The public should be taught the advantages of paying taxes and that the disadvantages. Tax evasion is punnishable by law as stated in article 369 of the Penal Code that a taxpayer guilty of tax evasion shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of between three to six months and a fine equal to the evaded tax.
