Tour du Rwanda preps into penultimate stage

Ally Dukuzumuremyi 2h40’46” Preparations for the 2015 Tour du Rwanda entered the final leg as Benediction Club’s Jean Bosco Nsengimana was crowned winner of the 9th stage of the race yesterday. The stage covered 179 kilometres from Rwamagana to Huye. Nsengimana clocked 5 hours, 9 minutes and 41 seconds ahead of Patrick Byukusenge (5 hours, 12 minutes and 30 seconds) who came in second position. The overall winner of the preparatory race, dubbed “Rwanda Cycling Cup” races will be crowned at the weekend after the 10th and last stage of the race slated for Saturday from Muhanga to Rubavu and Sunday from Rubavu to Kigali. Meanwhile, in stage eight of the race from Nyagatare to Rwamagana(135 kilometres) on Saturday, Benediction Club rider Emile Bintunimana won after clocking 3 hours, 8 minutes and 48 seconds. Amis Sportifs rider and 2014 Tour du Rwanda winner, Valens Ndayisenga came in second position (3h 9’25”). In the junior category, the race was won by Samuel Mugisha in 3 hours, 47 minutes and 25 seconds from Rwamagana to Nyanza. René Ukiniwabo followed with 3 hours 47 minutes and 27 seconds while Emmanuel Ruberwa came in third position with 3 hours 47 minutes and 27 seconds. Rwanda Cycling Cup races started in April with Hadi Janvier winning the Race for Culture in June. Bosco Nsangimana, also of Benediction Club won Northern Circuit, while his teammate, Patrick Byukusenge secured the Western Circuit. Amis Sportifs rider Jean Claude Uwizeye won Tour of Kigali while his teammate Joseph Haleluya won Kivu Race, and the Race against Watch was claimed by the reigning Tour du Rwanda champion Ndayisenga and Joseph Biziyaremye of Ciney Elmay took the National Championships race. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
