WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI—A medical team from Rusizi and Nyamasheke have been trained on the symptoms of the Ebola hemorrhagic fever, experiencing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A delegation of specialized personnel sent by the Ministry of Health is moving around two districts teaching medics on how they can handle such cases and at least one medical personnel has been trained at every health centre in the region. Centres at Mibilizi, located in Gashonga sector in Rusizi district, have been put aside to identify the Ebola symptoms and to isolate whoever is infected with the virus. In a bid to avoid the disease from extending to the country, Rusizi borders have been squeezed up whereby all people entering into the country would be thoroughly checked over health conditions. “We as health authorities in collaboration with security organs are preparing to begin checking medical conditions of all people entering the country from our neighboring country of DR Congo,” director of health Deo Rugaju said. “Due to the fact that there are reports of outbreak from there.” He also said that all local leaders and residents in general have been alerted, especially those living alongside the border, adding that sensitizations and mobilizations were still going on.
