WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI — The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Jean d’Arc Mujawamariya has said that the security in Rusizi is still firm. Mujawamariya who is also the minister in charge of monitoring government programmes in the district, made the remarks on Wednesday, during a district security meeting at Hotel Du Lac in Kamembe. “As far as I am concerned as the minister responsible for monitoring all government activities and programmes here in Rusizi district, I see total and tight security in this district compared to the previous years,” Mujawamariya said. Mujawamariya also asked security and district authorities who attended the meeting to sensitise and mobilise residents especially those near the borders to strengthen security in their respective localities. Residents were advised to always share information on the security situation in the area. Stepping up night patrols and reporting suspicious elements to security organs were pointed out as some of the measures to maintain security. According to the district criminal statistics, crimes had increased in September compared to the previous month. Two people were shot dead by armed robbers in the district last month. At the meeting, Superintendent Daniel Ndayambaje, the district Police Commander, reaffirmed their commitment to curbing crimes in the district. Mujawamariya together with Rusizi District Mayor, Jean Pierre Turatisnze called upon participants to encourage residents to increase agricultural production especially maize farming and to construct more houses for vulnerable residents who lack shelter. Leaders committed to begin serious negotiations with security authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo aimed at preventing harassment of Rwandans visiting DRC town of Bukavu. The meeting was attended by all grassroots leaders, Sector Executive Secretaries, various district officials, police and army authorities. Ends
