Parents and school administrators should strive to make learning environment conducive, Olivier Rwamukwaya, the state minister for primary and secondary education, has said. Rwamukwaya was, on Wednesday, speaking at the inauguration of eight newly-constructed classrooms and other structures that were rehabilitated at Mubuga Primary School in Musanze District. The classrooms were constructed by M2 Foundation, an NGO named after its founders Markus Gemuend and Monique M. Bobadilla, in collaboration with the government. The Foundation was created after the couple that came for gorilla trekking three years ago visited the school. Speaking at the event, Rwamukwaya hailed M2 Foundation, saying the new classrooms would create a suitable learning environment. “The new infrastructure will help reduce congestion, dropout, and repetition rate improving quality of education. True love is about actions like these,” he said. The minister urged parents, pupils and teachers to play a role in ensuring hygiene and make the school more productive. Making a model school Germuend lauded the ministry’s collaboration for the success of the project. ‘We could not have made this without close collaboration with the Government of Rwanda,” Guemuend said. He said the Foundation’s vision is to make Mubuga Primary School a competitive and model primary school in the country. “We are not interested in school construction alone but also providing the school with necessary pedagogical support to improve quality of education and make it a model primary school in Rwanda. Once proven successful, the model will be replicated in other countries in Africa,” Guemuend added. Solange Kubwimana, the president of the Parents-Teachers Association at Mubuga Primary School, pledged more effort for the success of the school. “We express our gratitude to M2 Foundation for helping us enhance the quality of education. We shall collaborate with the school to increase enrolment, care for the school infrastructure and collaborate to improve the quality of education,” Kubwimana said. Minister Rwamukwaya said the government was pleased with partners who complement education initiatives such as the 12-Year Basic Education. Mubuga Primary School enrolment stands at 876 pupils. The M2 Foundation partnership with government commenced in 2012. The newly inaugurated infrastructure includes eight fully furnished classrooms, office, staff room, latrines, ICT facility and sport facility. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
