Police in Kayonza have arrested a resident of Mukarange Sector following investigations into theft of industrial fertilisers and electronics from farmers in the district. Desire Ndahimana, 34, was arrested on Tuesday after Police recovered 33 sacks of the stolen fertilisers from his house. During the operation, Police also recovered an assortment of electronic items that include two television sets, stabiliser, decoder, handsets and 42 television stands. Ndahimana is currently being held at Mukarange Police Station pending further investigations. ‘Report crimes’ The Police Spokesperson for Eastern Province, Emmanuel Kayigi, commended Police partners in crime prevention for being actively involved in overcoming such security concerns in their neighborhoods. “Investigations indicate that the suspect, and others like him that we have arrested in several operations in the past, were breaking into targeted houses, either by breaking doors, windows, or drilling holes in walls, where they stole varied items,” Kayigi said. “These are some of those acts that have been thoroughly investigated and suspects arrested. By working closely with police and other law enforcers, residents will ensure that their neighborhoods are safe at all times,” he added. Kayigi reminded victims of robbery or burglary to always report to Police as a matter of urgency to enable investigations to take place in time. “It is important to always report to police; do not delay. We have cases where people come to claim stolen items yet they had never reported that they were robbed in the past. Good partnership entails providing timely information to Police,” Kayigi said. He further called on the general public to verify with various police stations across the country, whether their stolen items are among those recovered. Kayigi appealed to the residents to keep an eye on their neighbourhood activities, saying, “You need to know your neighbours and understand who they are, as part of your collective effort in community policing.” editorial@newtimes.co.rw
