V-ball captain pleased with 4th position finish

Rwanda mens volleyball team captain Christophe Mukunzi is pleased with his teammates after finishing in fourth position on Monday at the ongoing All-Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville. Rwanda lost to African giants Egypt 3-2 (25-27, 26-24, 24-26, 25-17, 15-13) in the third place playoff after a great performance from both teams in the match that lasted 126 minutes. Rwanda led twice 1-0 and 2-1 before Egypt came back with some substitutes to win the fourth set and the tightly contested tiebreaker. “We did well. We gave our best as a team. We failed to win a medal but on the other hand, I am thankful that my team achieved this and this is just the first step for us, and so we will need to work hard in the future,” said Mukunzi. Egypt won the bronze medal while Rwanda finished fourth. Rwandas Patrick Kavalo led the match scorers with 22 points while Islam Elsayed led the winners scorers with 17 points for Egypt. Algeria retained the gold medal in the mens category after they thrashed hosts Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 27-25) in front of a packed hall in Brazzaville on Monday in the final of the competition that lasted 80 minutes. In women’s category Kenya proved their consistency and won the gold medal of the Womens All Africa Games after overcoming Cameroon 3-1 (15-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-19) while Egypt won bronze after beating Seychelles 3-0 (25-17, 25-6, 25-15) in the third place match.
