Newly promoted side AS Muhanga has started trials of new players looking to complete the required 25-man squad for the upcoming 2015/16 Azam Rwanda Premier League season that starts on September 18. The 2013 Peace Cup finalists AS Muhanga who were relegated to second division league at the end of 2013/2014 season, returned to the topflight league last week alongside Etincelles FC after the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) increased the number of league teams from 14 to 16. The Muhanga District-sponsored side currently has only 13 players and hopes to have signed a dozen of others from the 90 players who are undergoing trials at the club base in the Southern province, according to Coach Felix Mbonyizana. “We have 90 players on trials vying for 12 slots available. By Friday, we shall be ready with a 25-player squad that will feature for the club in the forthcoming campaign in the topflight league,” Mbonyizana told Times Sport yesterday. Muhanga will open their league campaign against Alphonse Gatera’s Espoir FC on September 19 before playing away against Amagaju three days later. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
