Police are investigating the circumstances under which a 56-year-old woman whose body was found in her home in Munyiginya Sector of Rwamagana District died. Monique Habagara’s body was found in her cowshed in Kyarukamba Cell on Sunday night lying in a pool of blood. The Eastern Region Police spokesman, Emmanuel Kayigi, said the deceased could have been strangled. “We have made three arrests in connection with the death of the woman. We are conducting a thorough investigation into the case. All indication is that it was a premeditated killing. The deceased was hit on the head then strangled and her body later dumped in the cowshed. A cloth drenched was found buried in the ground [nearby], so it appears that the assailant[s] wanted to conceal evidence,” he said. Kayigi said the culprits are still at large. “We are yet to land on the real culprits, but they will not escape. We suspect domestic conflicts related to land and other properties to have motivated the killing of the single mother. It is a very unfortunate situation.” The deceased’s neighbour, who talked to The New Times on condition of anonymity, claimed that the suspects “were not far.” “Habagara was a very good person loved by all. However, there are some jealous people that kept on trying to harass her. The killers could have been hired by her enemy,” the neighbour said without divulging details. Man kills own son Meanwhile, Police in Gatsibo District are holding a man who beat his son to death. “People are losing humanity, there is no way you can explain killing your own child. Imagine a 9-year-old,” Kayigi said. “The man and his accomplice are currently being held at Kabarore Police Station. Rwamagana mayor Karim Uwizeyimana said domestic violence should be stopped. “We have been fighting the vice for long but we won’t stop sensitising communities on resolving conflicts peacefully until the vice is rooted out,” he said. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
