An ongoing operation to crackdown on theft of electronic equipment, especially in the City of Kigali, has led to the arrest of two people believed to be part of a racket. Amon Rugamba, 22, and Jesca Dusabe, 20, were apprehended in an operation conducted over the weekend in Kanombe Sector, Kicukiro District. According to the Police, the duo was found in possession of two stolen iPads, a computer, decoder, two scanners and a smart handset. The items were recovered in the house of one of the suspects in Rubirizi Cell. The suspects were detained at Kanombe Police Station as investigations continued. Police spokesperson for the central region CIP Richard Iyamuremye warned that the operation against buglers will not end soon. “Sometimes, members of the public provide us with information of suspicious individuals who do not work or reside in their communities; this guides us in our operations,” he said. “We also conduct operations in shops that deal in electronics. Most of the recovered gadgets are in our showroom at the Police headquarters, where victims can come and identify their recovered gadgets.” About 100 television sets and over 100 computers recovered in police operations are yet to be collected by their owners, he said. Other recovered items include home theaters, speakers, decoders, DVD decks and car radios.
