NORTHERN PROVINCE BURERA — At least 850 students yet to join public universities and other tertiary Institutions have completed a three-week solidarity training commonly called ‘Ingando’. The training was organised by the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), at the Peace and Leadership Centre-Nkumba in Burera district. Stanislas Kamanzi, the Minister of Natural Resources, presided over the pass out ceremony during which another batch of over 600 students were officially received. Speaking during the function, the Minister said that the orientation through Ingando is a way of understanding what unites Rwandans than what may divide them. It also helps Rwandans to leave behind divisionism which led to the 1994 Genocide. Kamanzi told the students that their role was critical in the future where they will be expected to offer answers to the challenges facing the country instead of being part of the problems. “We can not have sustainable development without people who will serve as guiding agents to bring positive change. Therefore, students hold a big responsibility of being flag bearers for strengthening peace and unity among Rwandans, ’’ Kamanzi said. Through their representative, the enthusiastic students highlighted their commitments- pledging to fight genocide and its ideology, promote unity among the youth and be flag bearers of positive change. At the function, Dr Jean Baptiste Habyarimana, the president of NURC asked the students to observe discipline which they have previously acquired if they are to achieve their goals. Habyarimana observed that Ingando helps participants to over come their past undesirable experiences to forge common ways of tackling common problems. He advised the students never to abuse the freedom they would find at the university and to be aware of the Aids scourge. This was the fourth group of students to undergo the solidarity training this year. Ends
