Rwandan envoy presents credentials in Singapore

The newly appointed High Commissioner of Rwanda to the Republic of Singapore, Guillaume Kavaruganda this Thursday, presented his letter of credence to the President of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam. According to a statement from the embassy, ceremony was held at the main office of the President, the Istana where Kavaruganda was accompanied by his spouse as well as the Commercial Attaché of the High Commission, Lucas Murenzi. “In his discussion with President Tony Tan, the two highlighted the good political cooperation as well as the improving trade, investment and tourism exchange between the two countries,” the statement reads in part. President Tony Tan Keng Yam noted that the good political relations and high level visits over the years played an important role in increasing trade, tourism and investments between the two countries, it reads. With an area of 718 km2, Singapore is almost forty times smaller than Rwanda and its population of five and a half million is mainly comprised of Chinese, Indians, Malays and euro-Asians who live together in harmony. Besides English, Singapore also recognizes Chinese, Indian and Malay languages. Ambassador Kavaruganda is Rwanda’s second High Commissioner in Singapore since the High Commission was opened in the year 2008. Kavaruganda was prior to the new posting working as the Minister Chancellor at the Rwandan embassy in The Netherlands. As a bilateral-arrangement, Rwandans do not need to pre-apply for entry Visa to Singapore for stays not exceeding thirty days.
