Gisagara Volleyball Club and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) claimed the 2023 men and women's Volleyball League titles respectively following their impressive performances in the playoffs held at BK Arena over the weekend. Gisagara clinched the men’s title after beating Police and REG 3-0 each in the playoffs to finish at the top of the table despite losing 3-2 sets to APR in their last match of the campaign. The Gisagara-based side relied on top performances from the likes of setter Sylvestre Ndayisaba, receiver attacker Samuel Niyonshima, opposite Samuel Tyson Niyogisubizo, and centre players Ronald Muvara and Adamou Doudou Djibril who impressed with good spikes, blocks and services to win two of their playoffs games and finish the season in grand style. ALSO READ: Season-ending playoffs get underway Gisagara, currently coached by Lawrence Yakan Guma, took home the title dethroning REG who struggled for results this season. Meanwhile, the women’s league title was still up in the air till the final day of the campaign before Rwanda Revenue Authority eventually won it after putting three straight sets past APR. RRA had not won the league title since 2016. They made the right appointment in Elie Mutabazi as their new head coach who eventually had them the trophy to bring their seven-year title jinx to an end. Gisagara won the title with 42 points, six ahead of APR and Police who are on second and third respectively while 2022 champions REG finished in fourth place with 34 points. Gisagara and RRA will represent Rwanda in African Club championship next year.
