APR to face Al Khartoum in Kagame Cup quarters

The other quarter-final will pit Kenya champions Gor Mahia against their South Sudan counterparts, Malakia on Tuesday, then on Wednesday, it will be KCCA of Uganda up against Al Ahly Shendi from Sudan, which will be followed by the clash between the two home sides, Azam and Yanga. All week, talk here in Dar es Salaam has been dominated by the prospect of a possible meeting between APR and Yanga, but that possibility went through the window after the Tanzania Premier League champions, defeated Al Khartoum 1-0 in the final Group A match yesterday to finish second, level with Gor on 9 points. Al Khartoum dropped from top of the group to third with seven points, while Gor Mahia secured top spot after beating the whipping boys of Djibouti Telecom 3-1 on Sunday. While APR reached the last eight with perfect record after winning all their Group B matches, Yanga lost their first group game against Gor Mahia and struggled to beat Djibouti Telecom 1-0 in the second match before finishing strongly against Zanzibar’s KMKM (3-0) and Al Khartoum but to the delight of their fans.
