Saturday Final REG 53-87 KPA Kenya’s KPA were crowned champions of the 2023 FIBA Zone V Women’s Championship, following Saturday’s 87-53 comfortable victory over home side REG in the final held at a sold-out Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium. Center Madinja Okoto and Victoria Reynolds formed an unstoppable combination which instantly improved their attacking intent, hence winning the third quarter 18-13, and the fourth 25-10 to bag a much-deserved win despite playing away from home. It’s an achievement that excited champions’ coach Antony Ojukwu Oloo. “Well I want to thank my players and my staff, we are many, some of them couldn't make it to Rwanda,” he said. Besides the trophy, KPA will, alongside REG, represent the Zone V in the 2023 FIBA Africa Champions Cup that will take place in Egypt from December 8-17. Meanwhile, APR women, another Rwandan side, crashed out of the competition following a shock 58-75 quarterfinal defeat to Uganda’s JKL Lady Dolphins on Thursday.
