Editor, RE: “Only the naive expect action against FDLR” (The New Times, July 22). Is there really any news here? Hope truly springs eternal, even among those who should by now know much better! After close to two decades of transparently bad theatre from Monuc-Monusco, their bosses at the UN back in New York, and their pay-masters in various major capitals in the west, does anybody, except the terminally naïve, still believe a solution to the FDLR menace can ever come from the UN? Does it require any expertise whatsoever to draw the only logical conclusion from this long-lived situation that neither the UN nor the DR Congo authorities, for their respective reasons, has any interest in resolving the permanent threat to the sub-region that the continued presence of the FDLR militia in eastern DRC represents?
