ATRACO and Amavubi Stars marksman Abedi Mulenda has been banned by Ferwafa for one year from participating in the Rwanda football league following a breach of transfer rule. Ferwafa, the local football governing body, Ferwafa took the decision on Thursday afternoon after days analyzing clearly the controversial transfer deals. The federation Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa said on Thursday that Mulenda will face a one-year ban from the local league after he intentionally breached Article 28 governing the players’ transfer rules. Article 28 states that any player who will sign two contracts for different clubs shall face a one-year suspension from the Rwanda national football league. According to Kalisa, “Mulenda breached that rule and when advised to honour the first contract he signed with Atraco, the player insisted that he would never play for the taxi-men.” “When a warning is issued to a player and he ignores it, then the rule comes into effect just like it did with Mulenda. “Mulenda will not feature for either Atraco or Rayon Sports this season and he will return back next season as a free agent,” Kalisa said. Initially, Mulenda renewed his contract to stay with the taxi-men club on July 22 but a month later he signed for rivals Rayon a two-year deal. After a heated debate on the player and his two contracts with both clubs, Ferwafa ruled in favor of the reigning champions for whom the striker played a key role in their title winning run. And the DR Congo born striker wrote a letter to Ferwafa dated October 3 indicating that he will never put on an Atraco Jersey. In his career, Mulenda played for AS Vita Kabasha from 2002-2003 before joining Rayon from 2003-2005. He had a brief spell with Kabasha before returning to the Blues in 2006. He signed for Atraco during the 2006/07 season and went on to win the league with the taxi-me side in his second season. Other player whose transfer raised controversy include that of Jean Claude Iranzi from Kiyovu APR, Kalisa Kase from Rayon to Atraco and Arafat Serugendo from Mukura to APR, however these were sorted out amicably between the warring sides.
