Mugesera sector members of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) donated Friesian cows to support 25 poor families on Sunday. The donation saw more than 30 cows given to needy families in the Ngoma District sector.George Mupenzi, the vice mayor in charge of economic affairs, said the donation was intended to uplift poor families. Mupenzi, who is also the chairperson of RPF in Ngoma, thanked the residents who gave out all they could to support the needy. He commended members of RPF for spearheading the programme, advising residents to always have the same attitude of supporting each other in life. “As members of RPF, we need to have that same courage in doing what is good, striving to attain our goal in this sector, to create our own dignity and values, and our role in development. So, the cows we are giving the needy families come in the same spirit; we shall never tire in this regard,” he said. The beneficiaries thanked the RPF members, saying the party has already given a lot to the country, including security, and leading the poor out of poverty was something special. Elizabeth Nyiramatama, 71, one of the beneficiaries appreciated the RPF gesture, saying the members cared about the poor in communities. Reacting to concerns that some beneficiaries never cared about the cows given to them, the elderly woman promised to take good care of the cow. “I last saw a cow in my compound before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. It is thus unimaginable that a cow will be milked in my backyard. I don’t have enough words to thank the RPF members for their generosity and reaching out to the needy,” she said. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
