Police are holding two people in connection with counterfeit currencies, amounting to US $8,000. The two identified as Egide Ndagijimana and Solomon Nzigira, were arrested in Kirehe District. Police said Ndagijimana was allegedly found with fake notes, worth US$400, at the time of his arrest on Monday.Nzigira was arrested the following day after Ndagijimana told Police that he had received the fake money from him. This guided Police to Nzigira’s house in Mahama Sector where other fake dollar notes, worth $7600, were recovered. The duo is currently held at Kirehe Police Station as investigations continue. “We received reports from residents that the two men were secretly forging dollars. Although we arrested them with exhibit, investigations are still on going,” said Police Spokesperson for Eastern Province, Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kayigi. “We urge the public to always report such cases since counterfeit money affects not only the recipient but also the economy.” he said. Last week, Police in Burera District arrested Innocent Ndayambaje with 38 counterfeit notes of Rwf5,000 denomination.
