Rayon Sports midfielder Djihad Bizimana is seeking to extend his stay with the Nyanza-based club when his current contract expires at the end of this season—after the Peace Cup final on July 4. “I am in talks with Rayon Sports over a possibility of renewing my contract. Talks have reached advanced stages and hopefully soon, the deal will be finalized,” Bizimana said. The combative midfielder scored the second goal as Rayon Sports beat Isonga FC 2-1 in the Peace Cup semi-final first leg game on Saturday. Rayon Sports spokesperson Aime Emmanuel Niyomusabye confirmed the contract talks, saying that, “We want him (Bizimana) to stay as he has done a good job so far and we are thinking of how we can renew his contract. It’s not only him, but other players.” The 19-year-old midfielder who joined the ‘Blues’ from Etincelles two years ago is a nephew to Amavubi captain Haruna Niyonzima, who plays for Tanzania giants Young Africans. While Jean Baptiste Kayiranga’s team hesitate to offer the youngster, who has a five international caps for Amavubi Stars, a new deal, clubs like APR, Police and AS Kigali are monitoring the situation. Other players who the club wants to extend their contracts include; defender Faustin Usengimana, and goalkeeper Eric ‘Bakame’ Ndayishimiye. Rayon Sports has already lost several senior players—defenders, Abouba Sibomana and Karim Nizigiyimana, who signed for Gor Mahia in January as well as midfielders Robert Ndatimana, who crossed to Police FC a week ago and skipper Fuadi Ndayisenga and Aphrodis ‘Kanombe’ Hategekimana who joined Sofapaka. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
