The 22-year old, who won the national crown for a third consecutive year, attributed the victory to a lot of training he has recently attained at the World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland. Reigning Tour du Rwanda champion Ndayisenga won the individual time trial in Bugesera yesterday. (File photo) “I expected to win because my training sessions have been top notch. I liked the course and I am very happy that I won,” explained the 2014 Tour du Rwanda winner. Ndayisenga started two minutes after Benediction’s Janvier Hadi but arrived ahead of the latter who clocked 1:03:25. Benediction’s Jean Bosco Nsengimana finished second after crossing the line after using 58:07 and finished ahead of Nathan Byukusenge and Gasore Hategeka who set off before him. Youngster Joseph Aleluya finished an impressive third after clocking 58:18 while Joseph Biziyaremye (59:03) and Camera Hakuzimana (59:22) were fourth and fifth respectively in the men’s elite category that attracted a total of 30 riders. In the junior category, Ali of Cycling For All emerged winner ahead of Samuel Mugisha. Meanwhile, six teams including Cine Elmay, Cycling For All, Kiramuruzi, Amis Sportifs, Benediction and Fly will be in contention for the national title today in the men’s road race competition from Kigali to Huye, a total distance of 120km. Benediction head coach Felix Sempoma who conceded defeat yesterday revealed that his side will be seeking victory today in a more realistic way but will have to contain Amis Sportifs who are keen to retain their crown. “We have a chance to win the road race and we have what it takes to achieve our set target but we also know that Amis Sportifs is a tough team,” said Sempoma yesterday. Today’s race is the third event of the inaugural Rwanda Cycling Cup which commenced with the Kivu race in March before the second race from Kigali to Rwamagana in April.
