Editor, Refer to the article, “Tumba college meets partners in move to enhance graduate marketability” (The New Times, June 22). Any plan to use the massive coltan we sell abroad to produce our own electronic products? Rwanda produces nearly 20% of the world’s coltan but we are just exporting it raw to companies that produce tantalum capacitors and other. I am yet to see any plan from the TVETs to manufacture locally or to transform the mines we have into something tangible that can compete on international markets. We should be able to lure at least companies that are already in the business to come and set up shop here and work with those TVETs to transfer that knowledge. Otherwise, it is the same story as coffee roasting machines that took years to reach Rwanda. Didier
