In the morning, Ugandan captain Rachael Ntono won the toss and elected to bat first against Rwanda. Right arm batsman Damalie Busingye was dismissed for a golden duck by Diane Bimenyimana and caught by Veronique Iriho but her fellow opening batsman Saidat Kemigisha stayed on the crease to score a remarkable 46 runs off 43 balls not out. Betty Mukunzi bowled Kalsum Rashida who had managed 10 runs off 28 balls after 6.4 overs but Ntono’s performance, one run short of a half century off 46 balls with seven boundaries set the pace for a challenging second innings for the home side’s chase. Sarah Uwera (eight runs) was bowled by Jane Francis Baluka in the third over before a quick fall of wickets in succession claimed Iriho (five runs), team captain Mary Maina (10 runs), Claudine Uwase (one run) and Bimenyimana (five runs) to leave Rwanda hapless at 49 runs for a loss of six dependable wickets after 12.1 overs. Cathia Uwamahoro and Mukunzi managed 11 and 18 runs respectively but their eventual exit did not help matters against the experienced Ugandan outfit as they managed 103 runs all out on the last ball of the allocated overs to hand the Ugandans a 15 run triumph. In the afternoon, Kenyan captain Sylvia Wairimu Kinyua won the toss and chose to bat first against Rwanda. Margaret Ngoche and Queentor Abel scored 10 and 11 runs in that order but were dismissed in the opening six overs. Kinyua starred with 47 runs off 32 balls before she was bowled by her fellow captain Maina but the latter had already set pace for her side. Mary Wambui Mwangi added 25 runs as Kenya posted 114 runs for a loss of seven wickets. Rwanda’s Bimenyimana picked three wickets, conceding 24 runs. Rwanda attempted to chase but could only manage to post 71 runs for a loss of seven wickets as Kenya reduced the home side to a shambolic sight. Opening batsman Uwera was bowled by Meryline Ochieng for a duck after three balls before captain Maina was run out by Esther Wangare after 1.6 overs. Iriho was run out by the courageous Monicah Ndhambi after 2.3 overs as Rwanda was 5/3. Bimenyimana departed after 4.6 overs having posted just five runs off 12 balls while Miriam Maina who had managed 16 runs off 12 balls was bowled by Daisy Njoroge after 13.3 overs. Mukunzi attempted a comeback with 27 runs off 43 balls not out but her efforts did not amount to much as Rwanda fell to a second defeat.
