20 Ruhango students get Airtel scholarships

Airtel Rwanda, through Imbuto Foundation, has awarded scholarships worth $6,000 (Rwf4.4 million) to 20 students in Ruhango District. The scholarships are a fulfillment of Airtel’s pledge to reward women change-makers in society during the Airtel Women’s Day Digital campaign, where the First Lady Jeanette Kagame was among the top three winners through her work with Imbuto Foundation. Imbuto Foundation, a non-profit organisation championed by the First Lady, will administer the scholarships. The foundation aims to engage, empower and educate. Teddy Bhullar, Airtel Rwanda managing director, said the firm wants to empower the young generation so they are able to unlock their potential by providing the financial support they need to complete their studies. He was speaking during the hand over of the donation to the students at Ecole Secondaire de Kinazi, Diyana Gitera, the Imbuto Foundation deputy director general, said the contribution will go a long way in facilitating the student’s tuition fees, scholastic materials and insurance. According to Imbuto Foundation, most of the children come from poor families and the scholarship is a much-needed intervention to ensure that they complete secondary education. business@newtimes.co.rw
