Monday REG 95-73 Nile Legends Highflying Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women advanced to the playoffs of the 2023 FIBA Zone V Women’s Championship following Monday night’s 95-73 win over South Sudan's Nile Legends at Lycée de Kigali gymnasium. It was the second win in as many games for the Rwandan representatives who beat Tanzania’s JKT Stars 89-38 in their Group B opening game on Saturday, October 28. ALSO READ: Zone V Women’s Championship: REG coach optimistic Game 2 is a ‘must-win’ The home side depended much on dominating ball possession thanks to which they claimed the first quarter 27-15 and second quarter 26-20 to control the game with a 53-35 lead at the break. Returning in the second half, REG started where they stopped and took the third quarter 27-21 to extend their lead. Nile Legends narrowly found their way back into the game to claim fourth quarter 17-15 but it was too late for the South Sudanese ladies to steal the win away from a visibly determined REG. ALSO READ: Teams jet in ahead of Zone V Women’s Championship Betty Kalanga was in her prime on the court with her game high 27 points while Chelsea Jennings contributed 17 points en route to handing REG their second win in a row. REG return to business on the court against Kenya’s KPA on Tuesday October 31. The FIBA Zone V women’s championship acts as a qualifier for the 2023 FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women which will take place in Egypt on December 8 through 17. The continental women’s club basketball showpiece will bring together 10 teams coming across the continent.
