Rwanda national football team was held to a goalless draw by Kenya in the Commemoration Cup opener on Saturday evening at Amahoro Stadium. Amavubi started off on a good note, controlling the game with the forward trio of Jacques Tuyisenge, Ernest Sugira and Jean-Claude Iranzi creating goal-scoring chances but were kept at bay by an alert Kenyan defense. Kenya had two chances in the match with one of them, a run into the box by David Ochieng in a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure but the latter was quick to stop the shot. Rwanda will now face Tanzania on Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm while Kenya take on South Sudan in the first game of the day at 1pm. Amavubi are using the inaugural edition of the tournament organized to remember the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, to prepare for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Mozambique on the weekend of June 13-14 in Maputo.
