Rwanda to open centre for corporate governance

Part of the Private Sector Federation (PSF) strategic plan is creating a centre for corporate governance by the end of this year, the Secretary General of PSF, Emmanuel Hategeka has said. He said this last Friday at the closure of a four-day corporate governance course for directors sponsored by the PSF at Hotel Novotel. The training was attended by 25 participants from the PSF, Civil Society, Capacity Building Project and board members from the School of Finance and Banking (SFB). Hategeka said that the centre will be set up in two phases and that it will offer training that will have a positive effect on the way directors handle situations in different institutions. “A course like the one we have just had is a cornerstone that will help steer organisations in the right direction and we need more of these trainings hence the need for creating our own centre for corporate governance,” Hategeka said. The Chief Executive Officer for the Center for Corporate Governance Kenya, Dr. Joshua A. Okumbe, said that Rwanda is doing well in terms of good governance though there is need to train more people in the country. “Rwanda is well ahead in corporate governance and this is very encouraging because whenever we carry out such trainings, those who attend acquire skills not only in corporate governance but also in business ethics,” Okumbe said. At the end of the four-day training The Centre for Corporate Governance Kenya awarded certificates of merit to all 25 participants from the different organisations. Ends
