Editor, Refer to Lonzen Rugira’s article, “Rwandas experience is tragedy and antidote: Is anyone learning anything?” (The New Times, May 4). As the Latin-Syrian philosopher-writer taught us, from the errors of others a wise man corrects his own. The misfortune of others only serves as a lesson to those who are wise enough. Alas, few anywhere, and certainly even fewer in our neighbourhood, seem to possess the requisite degree of wisdom to be able to learn from our own horrendous history. The political class in many an African country seems to be determined to learn nothing from our history. Mwene Kalinda
