Dear editor,General Nkunda proclaimed yesterday that he will liberate the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo,(DRC), with his well-trained and disciplined army. This comes as no surprise to me, after prolonged conflict and violence in the country that neither MONUC nor the government cared to stop. War could have been averted, if the two protagonists came to the table to end their differences. Instead, they have opted to remain fighting all the time, to show who is stronger militarily. It does not work that way, and no wonder Nkunda is declaring an out right war-the underlying principle being that if you can’t join them, beat them. BUTARE
