Only 15 per cent of the total number of motorists required to get new electronic driving permits have paid. According to government officials by yesterday a modest number of 10,500 had managed to pay the stipulated Frw50,000. Over Frw3.5 billion is expected from the 70, 000 motorists within the country. Last month the government extended the deadline for acquiring new electronic driving permits by another month. However Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) officials say that the general turn up from the public is still very low. Gerald Nkusi Mukubu, the director for Tax Payer services urges motorists to come early and meet this obligation as it is better to avoid the long queues and stress that comes towards the deadline. “I advise every motorist to come early and avoid last minute payments. Most people forget that towards the deadline, they could as well fail to posses the money, the earlier, the better it is to plan for other activities,” he said. RRA opened different revenue collection centers to save time of the tax payers by bringing services closer to them. These centers also collect visa, passport and traffic fine fees. Ends
