Police in Burera are holding the district’s land manager on allegations of mismanaging public property. Sylidio Dusabimana was arrested on Thursday after Police suspected him of giving out district materials free of charge, according to Chief Inspector of Police André Hakizimana, the Northern Province regional Police spokesperson. He is being held at Rusarabuye Police Station in Burera pending further investigations, Police said. Hakizimana refused to divulge details, saying investigations were still at infancy stage and that any further information released could jeopardise the investigations, adding that there may be further arrests of suspected accomplices. “We have him in custody, he is suspected of giving out public property at no cost, which may be linked to corruption according to the provisions of the law,” he said. The alleged property given out or its value were not identified. Samuel Sembagare, the Burera mayor, also confirmed the official’s arrest, saying some electronics were missing from his office, which he speculated could be the reason behind the arrest.
