Former Miss Rwanda contestant starts charity organisation

Former Miss Rwanda contestant, Fiona Ntaringwa, has started a charity organisation called Give Hope Foundation to help the needy especially patients who can’t afford medical bills. The beauty queen, who was among the top finalists, says she is continuing her ambition to help the needy. “This is something that I’d still have done if I was crowned winner. “I have no regrets of not being Miss Rwanda,” she says, adding that the contest gave her a platform. Good Hope Foundation will be organising annual walks in an effort to raise money for needy patients. “There are thousands of people in this country who can’t cater for their medical bills,” she says. “For instance, University Central Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) loses Rwf30 million every month to needy patients,” Ntaringwa says, adding that the organisation will aim at raising Rwf36 million per year and proceeds will go to CHUK. “Together with a few friends, we have already started making a few donations,” she told The New Times. The foundation will target mainly the youth, with great emphasis on students. If all goes as planned, Give Hope Foundation will join hands with other partners, like Imbuto Foundation and the Ministry of Youth. On future plans, the Mass Communication student at College of Science and Technology - University of Rwanda, says she won’t be participating in the beauty pageant next year. “It great to participate; an excellent challenge that was an eye-opener,” she concludes. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
