BY JAMES TASAMBA EASTERN PROVINCE BUGESERA: The President of the Senate, Dr Vincent Biruta has said poverty eradication will depend on visionary leaders with capacity to mobilise residents for meaningful development. He was addressing residents of Mayange Sector where he visited Mayange Primary School and Health Centre, both projects of the Millennium Villages. Dr Biruta who led a delegation of senators advised residents to work hard to develop their area instead of waiting for aid. “With or without donor support, locals must do everything possible to spur development. We should not allow poverty to become inherent on our people,” he said. He added that whatever had not been done in the past regimes in the area can be achieved in the present leadership. Responding to the president of the Sector Advisory Council ,Pierre C. Twagirayezu’s earlier remark that President Paul Kagame should seek a second term in office after his first term, Dr Biruta told residents that it was prudent to detest leaders who would drag the country behind. He further urged the residents to discard negative ideologies saying it had retarded development in the country.
