FA orders Mukura to pay Kayiranga Rwf12m

Rwanda Football Association (Ferwafa) has ordered National Football League side Mukura Victory Sports to pay former coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga, Rwf12m for unlawful dismissal. Kayiranga was dismissed on November 5 last year after a string of poor results, which the Southern Province club blamed on Kayiranga. At the time, Mukura was bottom of the league table with just 2 points. The former Amavubi coach joined Mukura in June last year on a one-year contract but was fired after four months with the club over not only underperforming, but also causing disharmony between the club administration and players. Kayiranga through his lawyer Kizito Safari petitioned the Ferwafa disciplinary committee headed by Emmanuel Itamwa saying that his client was illegally sacked and that his contract should be paid in full including damages. Kayiranga was earning Rwf1.2m, but had only been paid 3 months’ salary. “After hearing from both parties, we find that Mukura is guilty of sacking Kayiranga contrary to what the bidding contract specifies,” a statement from Ferwafa said. Kayiranga, who has previously coached Gicumbi and Kiyovu, is one of the most experienced coaches in the country and he was hired by Rayon Sports recently to stir the club to the top 3 after a poor run of results. After Kayiranga’s sacking, Mukura brought back former coach Godfrey Okoko who has now moved the club to 11th place on the national football league table with 24 points after five wins and eight draws in 18 games. However, when contacted, Mukura’s secretary general Emmanuel Ntakirutimana said, “We only received Ferwafa’s verdict today (Thursday), so we will first have to call a meeting for the executive committee to decide what to do.” editorial@newtimes.co.rw
