Police volleyball club have appointed former national team player Fred Musoni as their new head coach on a two-year contract. Club’s technical director, Philbert Mucyo, confirmed Musoni’s appointment to Times Sport on Tuesday. READ ALSO: Volleyball: Police, RRA crowned Kirehe Open Champions “It is done. Fred Musoni is our new coach for the next two years,” Mucyo told Times Sport on Tuesday. “His vast knowledge and experience in the local volleyball is a great asset,” he added. Musoni, 30, becomes Police's first permanent head coach since September when Sylvester Mbanza left. Career Musoni earned his first call up in the Under-21 national team which was under Brazilian coach Paulo de Tarso in 2011. The team was at the time preparing for the Africa U21 Men’s Volleyball Championship held in Libya where Rwanda finished in the fourth position after losing to Egypt in the semifinals. The middle blocker spent four seasons with APR and captained them to two league crowns among other titles before crossing to then debutants, now-defunct, Rayon Sports. READ ALSO: Fred Musoni: The rise and rise of a volleyball star Musoni, who played 60 games with different national teams, was part of the U21 team that played the 2013 FIVB U21 Men’s World Championships in Ankara, Turkey, after finishing third in African championships. He has also represented the country at senior Africa Nations Championships finals three times, with the latest being the 2017 edition in Egypt where Rwanda finished sixth. In 2013-2014, he played a crucial role in propelling the senior national team to the final round of qualifiers for the 2014 World Championship. Rwanda, however, failed to qualify for the global event. Musoni was also a regular when Rwanda finished fourth at the 2015 All-Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
